Hairdresser Rita has enrolled on an Open University course to discover herself and better her circumstances.
This is where she meets Frank – her tutor and a frustrated poet and academic, a borderline alcoholic – and he’s not too happy about having to teach Rita. Yet he’s fascinated by her take on life and realises she has potential. He takes her under his wing and tries to guide her on a path of self-discovery, neither one realising where the journey will take them.
