About The Arches Theatre

The four railway arches, now The Arches Theatre, was once part of the Midland Railway’s Bedford to Northampton line. The line opened in 1872 and closed to passengers in 1962. The railway line runs through the land belonging to David Pibworth.

For many years it stayed unused and almost forgotten. That is until David and his wife decided that these beautiful railway arches should no longer be hidden by brambles, bushes, nettles and ivy; but should instead be opened up into an outdoor theatre venue for everyone to enjoy.

We opened The Arches Theatre on Saturday 4th August 2018 with a fantastic production of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ performed by professional company The Wet Mariners.

Seasonal Shows

As You Like It was a big success and it received some great reviews from our audience.

We are only a summer venue, open normally between mid July to mid September. This is because The Arches is a flood bridge, so come winter we can usually be found submerged in flood water! Not ideal for our theatre goers.

Why not take a look at our What’s On page for full details of forthcoming productions and come and see the venue for yourself?!
